My name is Evan – I am 20 years old at the time of this event and recollection. I was invited to join my dear friend Jane Yoder in her most recent venture to Kenya.
Jane saw the potential of using the acting skills and concepts I have used through DRAMA Ministry to get the young people at the assemblies in Kenya to become excited about sharing the gospel. I prayed for a while, then agreed to join her also seeing this as a way to grow my spiritual walk with Yeshua. Up to this point I had never been outside of the United States for any reason. I was very excited to join Messianic Hope International for my first Missions trip!
Upon arriving in Kenya, I already felt welcome by all of Jane’s family and friends! They invited us into their homes, fed us, and treated us as if we were family. Through every interaction with the believers we traveled and stayed with, I felt the love of Yeshua from them all!
Visiting the orphanages and children’s homes was a moving experience for me. The children were so welcoming, greeting us with singing and sharing their dreams with us. Even though they were in need of so much, the love of Yeshua still poured out from them and touched our hearts. The adults and caretakers of the children struck me as very sincere and invested in the work they do for the orphans. Hearing what it takes for them to continue taking care of these children and to keep the homes open gave me an even greater respect for their passion to serve as Messiah served us. Even as I write this my heart goes out to them as they continue working to give the young ones entrusted to them the best life they can. After all, these children are not their own, but they treat them and love them as if they were.
The work Messianic Hope International has done and continues to do in Kenya to support the children’s homes and in the schools is nothing but wonderful! The heart to serve that resides in all who work with them is to see the Kingdom of YHWH grow and to bring more people into it! I consider it an honor to have worked with them and am excited for many more opportunities in the future! May YHWH continue to bless them wherever they go!
SHALOM, Evan Zimmerman
